Zacchaeus is one of the most memorable characters in the gospels. He only appears in Luke: the little man who stands up to a sneering town, promises to make any amends he needs to make, and ends up taking Jesus home to dinner.

I remember that as a child I was always puzzled by today’s gospel. Not by its simple message of humility, but by how it was named in those olden days: the Parable of the Republican and the Pharisee.
I am thinking in a special way of Adam and Stephanie today. I am simply in awe of parents and how lovingly and hopefully they take on this charge of baptizing their children.
This gospel about the mustard seed is familiar to so many of us. I think we all understand the larger point Jesus is trying to make – that even a little bit of faith can work wonders. That it can grow, and strengthen, and make possible miracles.
